Between June 24 and July 24, 2026, 15 elephants were found dead in the Amboseli savannah ecosystem near the border with Tanzania, specifically at the Kimana Sanctuary and Kuku areas. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is investigating the cause of these deaths. Preliminary laboratory investigations by KWS detected a toxic substance in the carcasses of the elephants. The investigation is ongoing.
