Miyazaki is known for directing Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Elden Ring, whose success helped make Soulslike design influential across the video game industry.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game director behind Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Elden Ring, has discussed connection, pessimism and game design in an interview ahead of the release of FromSoftware’s new multiplayer game, The Duskbloods.
Miyazaki has been president of FromSoftware since 2014. His games are associated with punishing combat, obscure rules and hostile worlds, and helped establish the Soulslike genre.
Elden Ring, released in 2022 and credited with Game of Thrones author George RR Martin as a co-creator, has sold more than 30 million copies. The game is also being adapted for film by Alex Garland at A24.
