Cacao plantations encroach on proposed Kwa National Park in Liberia

A cocoa boom in southeast Liberia is wiping out native forests and encroaching into the proposed Kwa National Park, according to Mongabay.

The proposed park is a dense tropical rainforest that is home to chimpanzees, forest elephants, pygmy hippos and pangolins. It is partly located in Grand Gedeh County, described as one of the most densely forested regions in southeast Liberia.
