These environmental pressures have contributed to the vulnerability and endangerment of indigenous fish species in the region.
At the same time, researchers note that the same factors appear to favor exotic fish species that have been introduced into Kashmir’s freshwater habitats. These non-native fish are reportedly thriving amidst the degradation of the ecosystem, potentially gaining an advantage over native species.
