This Is Not A Dictionary.
The IAQ Lexicon is a living map of ideas discovered inside questions.
Every IAQ article can introduce a new concept, reveal a hidden mechanism, or give a name to a pattern that did not have one before. When an idea becomes strong enough, it may enter the Lexicon.
But not every candidate appears here. There are far more Lexicon candidates living inside IAQ articles than the concepts currently published on this page. The Lexicon grows selectively, as ideas connect, deepen, and begin to form families of their own.
What Do The Levels Mean?
A higher level does not mean “better.” It means deeper in the conceptual chain.

Friction Stacking
Small frictions rarely travel alone.
Friction Stacking describes the process by which multiple small inconveniences accumulate until they create a disproportionately negative overall experience. Each individual friction may seem insignificant, but together they increase cognitive load, consume energy, and reduce satisfaction. The final outcome often feels much worse than any single inconvenience could explain.
Examples
- Choosing a cheaper hotel that requires a longer subway ride, followed by crowded attractions, late meals, and long walks makes the entire trip feel exhausting even though no single decision was disastrous.
- A long airport transfer, slow hotel check-in, delayed dinner, and poor sleep together create a disappointing first day.
- A website with slightly confusing navigation, slow loading pages, repeated login prompts, and unnecessary popups feels frustrating because the small frictions accumulate.
