Why do people keep empty jars?
An empty container is often full of possibilities.
An empty jar is easy to replace.
Yet many kitchens contain shelves full of them.
However, people rarely store jars because they need them today. The hidden mechanism is Future Visibility. An empty jar represents countless small possibilities: leftovers, spices, screws, flowers, or something nobody has imagined yet.
Because the object remains useful in theory, throwing it away feels premature. Therefore, people choose possibility over space.
Most jars will never receive a second life.
Still, they remain.
Not because they contain something.
But because humans are remarkably unwilling to throw away a future that costs almost nothing to keep.
