Why do people turn down the radio while parking?
Silence is sometimes used as extra concentration.
The radio was enjoyable a moment ago.
The song is still playing.
Yet many people instinctively lower the volume while parking.
However, parking is not only a physical task. The hidden mechanism is Attention Exposure. Tight spaces increase awareness, and awareness demands mental resources.
Because attention is limited, people begin removing anything that competes with it. Music becomes less important. Conversations pause. The environment is simplified.
The interesting part is that lowering the radio does not improve eyesight.
It improves concentration.
People are not turning sound off.
They are making room for attention to become louder.
