Why do people talk to plants?
Not every conversation waits for a reply.
A person watering a plant may suddenly say,
"You look happier today."
The plant does not answer.
However, the conversation continues.
The hidden mechanism is Communication Ownership. Humans are remarkably good at creating relationships from repeated attention. Because caring involves observation, routines, and expectations, language naturally follows.
The words are not meant to transfer information. Instead, they make care visible. They transform maintenance into connection.
This is why people name plants, apologize for forgetting to water them, or celebrate new leaves.
The plant remains silent.
Yet silence does not prevent relationships.
Some conversations exist not to be answered.
They exist so care has somewhere to go.
