IAQ LEXICON
This Is Not A Dictionary.
The IAQ Lexicon is a living map of ideas discovered inside questions.
Every IAQ article can introduce a new concept, reveal a hidden mechanism, or give a name to a pattern that did not have one before. When an idea becomes strong enough, it may enter the Lexicon.
But not every candidate appears here. There are far more Lexicon candidates living inside IAQ articles than the concepts currently published on this page. The Lexicon grows selectively, as ideas connect, deepen, and begin to form families of their own.
What Do The Levels Mean?
A higher level does not mean “better.” It means deeper in the conceptual chain.

Sometimes one question creates a word that helps us ask the next question differently.

Protective Language Capture
Protective words should improve interpretation, not replace it.
The use of legitimate safety, care, boundary, or wellbeing language to make an avoidance decision appear medically, morally, or socially unquestionable before the underlying evidence has been interpreted. Protective Language Capture occurs when language designed to protect people is repurposed to close examination of fear, reluctance, uncertainty, or conflicting incentives.
Examples
- Expected training discomfort being treated as proof of injury without examining the signal
- Ordinary disagreement being described as a boundary violation to prevent further discussion
- Necessary feedback being rejected as harmful before its content is considered
- A difficult but manageable responsibility being avoided through unexamined self-care language

Origin
Developed through the IAQ Running, Endurance, and Race Psychology series. It is placed beneath Negative Reinforcement because the captured language protects an avoidance behavior that is strengthened by immediate relief from discomfort or uncertainty. It differs from Courtesy Coercion, which disguises an unequal demand as politeness; Protective Language Capture gives an avoidance decision borrowed authority by presenting it through legitimate protective language.
