This Is Not A Dictionary.
The IAQ Lexicon is a living map of ideas discovered inside questions.
Every IAQ article can introduce a new concept, reveal a hidden mechanism, or give a name to a pattern that did not have one before. When an idea becomes strong enough, it may enter the Lexicon.
But not every candidate appears here. There are far more Lexicon candidates living inside IAQ articles than the concepts currently published on this page. The Lexicon grows selectively, as ideas connect, deepen, and begin to form families of their own.
What Do The Levels Mean?
A higher level does not mean “better.” It means deeper in the conceptual chain.

Effort-Lag Illusion
A delayed bill can make an expensive choice feel free.
The temporary misjudgment of an action as inexpensive because its most important physical, psychological, financial, or operational consequences have not yet become perceptible. Effort-Lag Illusion appears when a cost begins accumulating before the signals needed to recognize it become strong enough to influence behavior.

- A runner starting too quickly because fatigue has not yet become noticeable
- A worker accepting repeated obligations before their cumulative strain becomes visible
- A household underestimating deferred expenses because no immediate payment is required
- An organization expanding a process before maintenance costs begin appearing

Origin
Developed through the IAQ Running, Endurance, and Race Psychology series. It is placed beneath Invisible Trade-Off because the mechanism separates the moment a cost begins accumulating from the later moment when that cost becomes perceptible. It differs from Resolved Risk Illusion, which retrospectively dismisses a past protective cost after uncertainty disappears; Effort-Lag Illusion operates prospectively while consequences are already forming but remain difficult to feel.
