People often imagine authenticity as something fixed. Yet authenticity changes whenever attention changes. A neighborhood visited by a thousand outsiders begins responding to those outsiders, whether consciously or not.
The hidden mechanism is feedback. Visitors arrive searching for a certain image, businesses respond to that demand, and the city slowly starts reflecting the expectations of its audience. Sometimes fame protects identity. Sometimes it becomes a new identity.
