What Is an Out in Baseball?
Every inning turns on how quickly a team can collect three outs.
An out in baseball means the offensive team has lost one of its three chances in the inning. Outs can happen through strikeouts, caught fly balls, force plays, tags, and other legal defensive actions. Once a team makes three outs, its half of the inning ends. Understanding outs is essential because almost every baseball strategy depends on how many outs are currently recorded.
