Numerical Closure
People do not always prefer smaller numbers. They often prefer numbers that feel finished.
Numerical Closure describes the tendency of people to prefer numbers that feel complete, predictable, and mentally finished. Round numbers reduce cognitive effort and create a stronger sense of control, while decimals may feel slightly unfinished or open to uncertainty.
Examples
- Round prices; monthly subscriptions; prices ending in .99; budgeting with rounded amounts; milestone goals such as saving $1000 instead of $987.

Why are people afraid of the decimals at the end of prices?
Origin
The concept emerged from observing that people react emotionally not only to the size of a number, but also to how psychologically complete and manageable it feels.
