Conversational Symmetry
Conversation feels comfortable when attention does not belong to only one person.
The invisible balance people try to maintain in conversation so that speaking, listening, interrupting, silence, attention, and emotional weight feel fairly distributed. Conversational Symmetry does not require equal speaking time. Instead, it creates the feeling that everyone has enough space to participate and enough attention to feel heard.
Examples
- taking turns naturally in conversation
- allowing pauses instead of interrupting
- balancing speaking and listening
- making eye contact with everyone in a group
- adjusting tone and pace to match others
