Travelers sometimes associate modern-looking bakeries with higher standards and older-looking bakeries with greater risk. In reality, visual style and food safety are largely independent.
Many traditional bakeries operate with excellent hygiene practices while preserving historic interiors, equipment, or service methods. Likewise, a modern appearance alone does not guarantee strong operational standards.
The most reliable indicators remain cleanliness, food handling, staff behavior, product storage, and customer turnover. These factors provide much more useful information than décor or building age.
